Stronger Together
Individual, Couple and Family Support
About Bridie
I believe people are often more skilled and capable than they realize. Sometimes, all it takes is a little space to be heard and someone to believe in them to create the change they were always capable of.
Relationships are one of the most powerful forces in our lives—changing how we interact with each other changes how we think and feel about ourselves and what we do. My aim is to foster change through the therapeutic relationship and help create warm, loving spaces within other relationships that support growth, resilience, and connection.
I completed my Bachelor of Psychology with First Class Honours in 2020 and followed it with a Graduate Certificate in Counselling in 2021. Currently, I’m working towards becoming an accredited family therapist by studying an Advanced Certificate in Couple and Family Therapy at the Family Systems Institute. I am under the supervision of Roxanne Garven, a highly experienced family therapist.
My Clinical Approach
The way that I see and understand problems is through an ecological lens, meaning that I look to a person's relationships with their families, schools, workplaces, communities, societies, identities and cultures to make sense of their individual functioning. My lens has been informed by approaches like Structural Family Therapy, Bowen Family Systems, the Power Threat Meaning Framework, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Schema Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and attachment-based therapy. Alongside these relational approaches, I integrate skills-based therapies like CBT, DBT, and ACT to offer practical strategies for navigating challenges and encouraging personal growth.
How is Bridie’s practice neuro-affirming?
Bridie places a lot of importance on the impact of person-environment mismatch on the presenting problems of the neurodivergent person and their loved ones. Through this lens, she considers factors like the person’s relationships, accommodations, sensory and physiological needs and unique communication style (i.e. double empathy problem) on how the person functions in different contexts. This means that the burden is not entirely placed on the neurodivergent person to learn skills to cope with their environment, but responsibility is shared between the person themselves, environmental accommodations and others around the person.
